Hi, I’m Sabina

Zen Grooming was started to offer affordable, low-stress, safe grooming to dogs that are hard to groom due to behavioral or physical issues.

Our head groomer and founder, Sabina Poinelli has over 20 years’ experience in dog grooming, canine behavioral training, and dog rescue. In her role as the head of a small breed dog rescue--Caring Hearts Rescue--she has encountered many dogs in desperate need of a grooming and dogs that are difficult to groom safely.

How is Zen Dog Grooming Different?

Zen Grooming is located in the back of a private residence in Springfield. The home setting with access to a fenced back yard helps to reduce dogs' stress and keeps overhead low, allowing us to offer a more affordable grooming price. Below are the ways in which we are unique:

  • Safety -- Nervous dogs are groomed safely with proven techniques such as positive reinforcement and special positions that make it hard for the dog to squirm or bite. Difficult dogs are not held down by one or more groomers as they are in traditional salons.

  • Attention to the individual needs of each dog -- Each dog is different and our groomer takes the time to learn what works best for each individual dog while lowering their stress.

  • Low-stress environment -- The grooming environment is quiet and "zenlike." Because only one dog at a time is present at the salon, they are groomed quickly and gently. They don't have to wait in crates or experience the stress of being around other dogs and humans. And dogs who are getting too stressed during the grooming process get periodic breaks to help reduce their anxiety.

  • Cage free and only one dog is groomed at a time -- No cages and only one dog is present at the salon at a time. Clients who arrive for their appointments early wait in their car so client dogs don't have to encounter other dogs.

  • Dogs are ready in less than two hours. No long waits without food and water while multiple dogs get worked on simultaneously. The sooner a dog gets home, the happier they will be!

  • Owners can help assist in the  most difficult cases -- Some dogs benefit for having their owners present during the grooming process.

  • We give back! -- Zen Grooming gives 5 percent of its proceeds to local dog rescues and routinely provides free grooming to rescued dogs.

  • Personalized grooming classes available. Ask for more info!

  • Boarding options are also available for dogs under 20 pounds. on a case by case basis.
